Under minimal supervision, facilitates/instructs National Safety Council Defensive Driving Courses as required by state contracts. Instructors must effectively facilitate the course as it is written in their Instructor Manual in order to maintain the integrity of National Safety Council, the Defensive Driving Courses, and NSC contracts. Manages classroom materials (course guides, sign-in sheets, etc), keeps accurate classroom records, and reports student completions to the Data Management Center within required time restraints. Follows all rules and regulations deemed in the DDC Instructor Guide and any state program specific NSC Manual of Rules and Procedures. Represents National Safety Council in the classroom, keeps control of their assigned class at all times, and administers necessary tests as required by the individual state contracts. Instructors are required to provide their own transportation to assigned classes (locations where the instructor teaches will be pre-determined and agreed upon by the instructor and NSC.

DDC Course Facilitation/Instruction 90%

  • Facilitates/Instructs National Safety Council Defensive Driving Courses in a classroom setting and per the designated curriculums Instructor Manual.
  • Adheres strictly to the DDC Instructor Guide and state specific NSC Manual of Rules and Procedures (provided).
  • Maintains control of the classroom at all times.
  • Administers tests/quizzes as required by the State Contract.
  • Reports student completions, test results, incidents outside of the normal class facilitation, and any other pertinent information within the time frame required.
  • Maintains an appropriate quantity of classroom supplies (provided by NSC).
  • Represents National Safety Council with the utmost integrity including upholding the reputation of NSC, the specific state program goals and objectives, and the reputation of the contracting or governing state agency.

Instructor Development 5%

  • Attends scheduled training or retraining, update seminars, round table discussions, and instructor development seminars as required and scheduled by NSC.

Other Job Duties 5%

  • Responsible for classroom safety as outlined in the Safety Manual. Follows safety policies and practices specific to job/position and level.
  • Attends mandatory employee safety training as outlined by Human Resources.

Education/Experience
  • Experience in public speaking with the ability to lead effective classroom discussions, and be able to handle a diverse group of students.
  • A background in Sociology, Psychology, Counseling, or Education.
  • Personal email address required for e-communication with our Instructor Portal & DDC Information Highway.
  • Ability to deal with unexpected difficulties such as equipment failures, facility issues, individuals with learning or behavior difficulties, and/or disruptions to class.
  • Bilingual in English & Spanish a plus.
