Job Description

Summary of Job Duties:

The Computer Support Technician is responsible for a wide range of activities related to computer support such as maintaining, analyzing, troubleshooting, and repairing hardware and software systems. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Resolves hardware or software problems in response to user questions and requests for assistance by diagnosing the source of malfunctions, recommending corrective actions, and/or consulting with appropriate staff or vendors. Installs, configures, upgrades, or replaces microcomputer hardware and software for users. Evaluates and makes recommendations for necessary adjustments to applications to satisfy user requirements. Provides recommendations on the purchase of user hardware and software. Assists in planning, preparation, and conducting seminars on software, hardware, network or other computer related topics. Performs other duties as assigned.

This position primarily supports students, faculty, and staff within the department of Industrial Engineering and the department of Biological Engineering.


Qualifications:

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The formal education equivalent of an associate’s degree in computer science, business systems, mathematics, or a related field

 

OR

  • Completion of technical training in computer science, information technology, or a related field acquired from a vocational, military, or industrial setting

 

PLUS

  • At least one year of experience in computer support operations, or applicable combination of experience and/or education

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Audio visual and video editing experience

  • Customer service experience, especially in an information technology field

  • Experience working in higher education
