Operations Manager - Machining

Job Description
Responsible to lead machining operations and related processes, maintain and improve department efficiency and provide leadership to a team comprised of Machining Supervisors. Provide leadership in improving the productivity and efficiency of the department. Develop knowledge of machinery, subgroups and components in order to increase the effectiveness of maintenance activities and improve design. Recommend, support and implement improvements, modifications, or additions that will improve machining operations and related work processes. Monitor machining area to ensure work instructions are being followed and ensure proper setup. Identify, implement and track cost savings ideas. Be aware of delivery priorities and schedules and make adjustments to operations as needed when conditions require. Develop and implement process improvements. Assist in coordination of engineering or quality projects, including preventive maintenance in machining. Interface with quality and Product Engineers to develop and implement corrective and preventative actions regarding the production process. Develop measures, plan and strategize work, facilitate effective meetings, identify organizational needs, and manage multiple projects. Develop and implement preventative maintenance plan to ensure the continuity of production or that interruptions are for the shortest time possible. Determine process cost and schedules. Serve as a contributing member of the plant management staff team and support the achievement of company objectives. Keep the General Manager informed of problems and recommend and implement engineering solutions. Assist business unit leadership in the planning development, coordination, support, and execution of high impact (immediate and long term) improvement plans for effective and sustainable cost saving initiatives. Coordinate activities of Machining Supervisors and other personnel as required. Assign priorities to his subordinate team, which consists of Machining Supervisors which in turn supervise the work of employees in a manufacturing and assembly environment. Be responsible for staffing and ensuring that proper training is provided to maintain and improve skill level of subordinate team members. Ensure a safe work environment is maintained, appropriate safety systems/processes are utilized, and ensure compliance with all OSHA and other state/federal safety and environmental related rules and regulations. Manage and supervise associates in a fair and consistent manner to ensure compliance with personnel and company policies, procedures and safety rules and provide appropriate feedback and/or disciplinary measures as needed. Ensure performance evaluations are completed on time and they provide adequate and honest feedback on associates’ performance and include goals and/or areas of improvement needed. (5 direct reports).
Requirements:
Master Degree in Industrial Engineering, Quality Systems and Productivity Engineering or foreign educational equivalent. Two years of experience in the position offered, or in a similar position such as Program Manager. Experience must include leading the launch of new products through internal and external manufacturing processes, and supporting new products throughout their lifecycle.
