About The Position

The Senior Director of Assessment and Evaluation at Alice L. Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM) plays a pivotal role in measuring student attainment of AWSOM medical education program objectives and ensuring the continuous improvement of our medical education programs. This senior leadership position is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive assessment and evaluation strategies to measure student performance, and the effectiveness of our curriculum, faculty, educational outcomes, and programs. The Senior Director will collaborate with various stakeholders to drive excellence in medical education, maintain accreditation standards, and support data-driven decision-making.

Major Responsibilities/Essential Functions Specific to the Position:

  • Assessment and Evaluation Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive assessment and evaluation strategy aligned with the medical education program objectives, mission, and goals of the medical school, including programmatic and institutional assessments.
  • Assessment Tools and Technology: Create/Support the creation of assessment tools. Conduct item analyses. Stay current with assessment tools and technologies and recommend their implementation as appropriate. Explore innovative methods for assessment and evaluation.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Oversee the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data related to student performance, faculty teaching effectiveness, and program outcomes. Utilize assessment data to provide actionable insights for curriculum enhancement and programmatic outcomes.
  • Curriculum Assessment: Lead efforts to assess the curriculum, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards and best practices in medical education. Collaborate with faculty and curriculum committees to make data-driven improvements.
  • Student Feedback Analysis: Solicit and analyze student feedback to identify opportunities for enhancing the student learning experience.
  • Longitudinal Database: Contribute to the development, implementation, and ongoing use of a longitudinal database for tracking admission, performance, and outcome metrics of AWSOM students and graduates.
  • Accreditation Compliance: Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and collaborate with accrediting bodies to facilitate successful accreditation processes.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Foster and nurture relationships; present complex data analysis and outcomes to diverse stakeholders.
  • Faculty Development: Collaborate with faculty and educational leaders to provide training and support in assessment and evaluation techniques. Promote a culture of continuous improvement in teaching and assessment.
  • Budget Management: Manage the budget for assessment and evaluation activities, ensuring responsible resource allocation.
  • Collaboration: Foster collaboration with faculty, staff, and stakeholders across the medical school to ensure that assessment and evaluation efforts are integrated into the educational programs effectively.
  • Professional Development: Stay informed about best practices and trends in medical education assessment and evaluation. Attending conferences and workshops to enhance expertise.

Minimum Requirements

A terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent) in a relevant field

Minimum Work Experience

  • 5 years' experience in educational assessment and program evaluation, with a strong background in medical education or healthcare education.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, statistical analysis, and assessment tools including descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, survey design and analysis, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and longitudinal data analysis
  • Proficiency with statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, STAT, and Python)
  • Proven leadership and management skills, with experience in team management and collaboration.
  • A commitment to fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in medical education.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

Preferred Work Experience

  • Experience with accreditation standards required of the Liaison Committee on Medical Education
  • Proven accomplishments in research
  • Strong commitment to self-care

About Us!

Founded in 2021 by philanthropist Alice Walton, the School of Medicine will offer a medical degree-granting program that builds on conventional medicine with an inclusive, compassionate, and whole health approach. The School of Medicine embraces self-care to empower students to care for their patients and themselves and helps them rise to the health challenges of the 21st century with a focus on mental, physical, social, and emotional health. The School will have an attached clinic for training in these concepts. Currently, the School of Medicine seeks to be a national medical school with the goal of welcoming its inaugural class in 2025, pending programmatic and institutional accreditation.

Construction of the 154,000 square-foot building has begun with the goal of completing and welcoming the first class in Fall 2025, pending accreditation. AWSOM will be located east of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas.
