Summary of Job Duties:The Chemistry Program of the School of Physical Sciences is accepting applications for academically and professionally qualified Adjunct Lecturers to teach introductory chemistry lectures and laboratories and/or inorganic chemistry laboratory for the Spring 2024 semester. The Adjunct Lecturers will be assigned to teach one or more sections based on the schedule and availability. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Graduate degree (MS or MA) in Chemistry;
  • Candidates with at least eighteen graduate hours of Chemistry orchemistry-related courses, combined with previous lab experience, may also apply.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Teaching experience at the College or University level;
  • Evidence of teaching excellence;
  • Experience in teaching Chemistry laboratories.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate introductory Chemistry classes including laboratories; Instruction may be delivered on-campus during day and/or evening;
  • Manage the class syllabus and ensure that the syllabus meets program, school, and college standards;
  • Prepare lesson plans, essential learning goals, and assignments;
  • Encourage active learning through discussion topics, group work, projects, etc.;
  • Provide feedback and grade assignments in a timely and thorough manner;
  • Establish office hours to provide additional assistance with student questions;
  • Performs other duties relevant to the position as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Committed to student success as demonstrated in your prior teaching experience and/or mentoring and supervisory experience;
  • Knowledge and use of evidence-based teaching practices, including active learning;
  • Expertise in Chemistry topics;
  • Knowledge of teaching laboratory equipment and Chemistry laboratory practices including safety practices;
  • Ability to engage students during class time with interactive learning approaches (e.g., iClicker, group work, individual work time);
  • Ability to use various computer software programs (e.g., Gmail, Blackboard, MSWord, Zoom, Excel, etc.).
