Information about the Department of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences, the University of Arkansas, and the surrounding community can be obtained by visiting the website: https://crop-soil-environmental-sciences.uark.edu/.Summary of Job Duties:Provide visionary and impactful leadership in planning, integrating, and implementing research, teaching, and extension programs. Duties also include (1) administrative and fiscal leadership for departmental personnel, programs, and physical resources; (2) leadership in planning, faculty development, and pursuit of extramural funding; (3) coordination with other university programs, professional and governmental agencies, and industry groups; and (4) development of an understanding of agriculture in Arkansas and the evolving research priorities in departmental disciplines including, but not limited to, crop science, soil science, and environmental science. The Department Head provides administrative leadership to the teaching programs including student instruction, recruitment, and retention, and nurturing strong relationships with students and alumni. The Department Head also serves as part of the broader administrative team of the Division of Agriculture and the Bumpers College.Qualifications:

Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in agronomy, crop science, crop physiology, environmental science, plant breeding, soil science, weed science, or a closely related discipline and must have an outstanding record of professional accomplishments. The candidate's record must demonstrate the skills necessary to lead and administer a program that includes resident instruction, research, extension, and service, and the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with diverse clientele and stakeholders. Required experiences and attributes include demonstrated effective and dynamic leadership, administrative capabilities, effective communication skills, ability to attract extramural funding, interest in providing multidisciplinary leadership and coordination of diverse research interests, interest in and ability to recruit undergraduate and graduate students, and a commitment to fostering research and academic excellence. Prior experience in the Land Grant University System is desirable, as is experience in a unit with multiple missions such as teaching, research, and extension. Demonstrated experience developing exemplary scholarship that serves the Land-Grant mission is valued.
