https://fulbright.uark.edu/departments/world-languages/Summary of Job Duties:The Department of World Languages, Literatures & Cultures in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas, invites applications for a non-tenure track Instructor in Italian to start in August 2024. This is a standard full-time, nine-month faculty appointment. Appointment is for a period of one academic year. We seek a candidate with a strong and developing national reputation, one who demonstrates curiosity in emerging technologies and novel approaches to traditional methods.

The Instructor of Italian will teach classes in Italian language, culture, and literature across a range of levels. The instructor will participate actively in curriculum development and co-curricular activities in the Italian section and in allied programs and may also have course coordination or supervisory duties. The teaching load for this position is four classes per semester of Italian language and culture classes across a range of levels. Familiarity with technology-based instruction and current best practices in world language pedagogy will be considered favorably. The instructor will also be expected to organize and assist in co-curricular activities related to the Italian Program such as the Italian language table, monthly cineforum, Italian Club activities, and others.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

About the Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures:
The Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures promotes an international understanding and global academic exchange. Through the Center for World Languages, courses in 13 languages and participation in many interdisciplinary programs across campus, faculty members empower students to become proficient communicators and acquire a working knowledge of cultures and literatures around the world.

Minimum Qualifications:

With submitted materials, the candidate must demonstrate:

  • Master's degree in Italian Studies, Italian Literature, L2 Pedagogy with a focus on Italian, or in a related field conferred by the start of employment

  • Native or near-native proficiency in both Italian and English

  • At least two years of demonstrated teaching experience at an US college and university and evidence of quality teaching

  • Demonstrated familiarity with technology-based instruction

  • Demonstrated familiarity with synchronous and asynchronous online tools for language learning
