This Instructor of Japanese will teach four classes per semester of Japanese language courses at all levels (true beginners to advanced learners), with the possibility of additional teaching appointments in summer for additional pay. Instructors are also expected to assist in curriculum development in the basic language component of the Japanese Program and in administering the official Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT; an international certification examination authorized by the Japanese government) on campus. Duties also involve teaching in close collaboration with other instructors teaching the same class. Openness to different teaching methods is essential. We seek a candidate with a strong and developing national reputation; one who demonstrates curiosity in emerging technologies and novel approaches to traditional methods.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
About the Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures:
The Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures promotes an international understanding and global academic exchange. Through the Center for World Languages, courses in 13 languages and participation in many interdisciplinary programs across campus, faculty members empower students to become proficient communicators and acquire a working knowledge of cultures and literatures around the world.

Master's degree in Japanese Linguistics, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field conferred on the first day of appointment
Native or near-native proficiency in both Japanese and English
Experience in teaching to English-speaking students
A vibrant and outgoing teaching style
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in preparing students for the JLPT will be considered favorably
