Job Summary

The Production Associate performs a variety of manual or machine-assisted, repetitive tasks to produce whole turkey products, turkey parts, ready-to-cook turkey products, and ready-to-eat turkey products.

Applicants for the Production Associate job may be offered a position in any of the following departments:

Evisceration - Starting Pay Rate $17.50/hr with an increase to $19.25/hr in 90 days. Shift Start Time 5:43 AM. Evisceration Production Associates perform tasks to clean and eviscerate (remove the organs of) recently slaughtered turkeys to prepare for secondary and further processing. Essential duties include: perform varying manual, repetitive tasks to remove organs and parts from slaughtered turkeys; perform repetitive tasks with assistance of tools, such as knives and scissors, to remove organs and parts from slaughtered turkeys; train to proficiency to rotate through jobs and perform multiple tasks within the department; perform any job in the department at the supervisor's discretion. Assigned job duties may change and vary day-to-day depending upon production needs.

Debone - Starting Pay Rate $17.50/hr with increase to $19.25/hr in 90 days. Shift Start Time 7:00 AM. Debone Production Associates use knives and other tools to cut turkey parts from whole turkeys and to trim turkey parts. Essential duties include perform repetitive tasks with assistance of tools, such as knives and scissors, to cut turkey parts from whole turkeys or to trim turkey parts; perform other various manual, repetitive tasks associated with processing and packaging deboned turkey parts; keep knives and other tools sharpened and in good working condition throughout the day; train to proficiency to rotate through jobs and perform multiple tasks within the department.

Packaging - Starting Pay Rate $17.00/hr with an increase to $18.75/hr in 90 days. Shift Start Time 9:00 AM. Packaging Production Associates perform repetitive tasks to prepare whole turkeys for packaging. Essential duties include: hanging chilled turkeys on moving shackles; shaping whole turkeys to product specifications; injecting basting solution into turkey breasts; sealing turkeys into bags on rotomatic machine; weighing, tagging, and netting packaged turkeys; train to proficiency to rotate through jobs and perform multiple tasks within the department; perform any job in the department at the supervisor's discretion. Assigned job duties may change and vary day-to-day depending upon production needs.

Boxing - Starting Pay Rate $17.00/hr with an increase to $18.75/hr in 90 days. Shift Start Time 9:00 AM. The Production Associate in Boxing performs a variety of manual or machine-assisted, repetitive tasks to produce whole turkey products, turkey parts, ready-to-cook turkey products, and ready-to-eat turkey products. Boxing Production Associates perform repetitive tasks to box packaged turkeys for shipments to warehouse and customers. Read tags on packaged turkeys and placing them into correct boxes; stack complete boxes of turkeys; train to proficiency to rotate through jobs and perform multiple tasks within the department; perform any job in the department at the supervisor's discretion. Assigned job duties may change and vary day-to-day depending on production needs.

Working Conditions

Working conditions vary by department but may include:

  • Temperature fluctuations from hot (ambient outside temperature during summer) to very cold (40 degrees Fahrenheit to ambient outside temperature during winter)
  • Damp-to-wet conditions in the area
  • Loud/noisy environment (86 - 99 dB)
  • Exposure to raw meat and associated parts, including but not limited to organs, blood, and feces
  • Work with loud and noisy machinery
  • Work with or around chemicals/fumes/pungent odors
  • Mandatory overtime or weekend work
  • There is mandatory seasonal work for approximately 5 to 6 weeks during the months of October and November, which includes working 7 days per week

Physical Requirements

  • Standing for up to four (4) hours at a time (time between breaks, and then from last break until end of shift)
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to sixty (60) pounds
  • Ability to grip, grasp, and lift repetitively through the course of the workday
  • Operating hand held and/or mechanical machinery.
  • Ability to wear all personal protective equipment (PPE) and hygiene equipment, including but not limited to steel mesh guards, bump cap/hard hat, steel-toed footwear, hearing protection, smock, and gloves

Minimum Qualifications

  • No minimum education requirement
  • No previous work experience required
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years old
  • Must be eligible to work legally in the United States
