Summary of Job Duties:The DCSTEM Graduate Student Development Specialist position's primary responsibility is to support advising in DCSTEM Graduate Programs and report to the Associate Dean of the DCSTEM. This advisor will initially support the rapidly expanding Computer Science Graduate Programs. This position will support growing programs as the need arises. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree;

  • Procient in oral and written English.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • 3 years experience in working with students in higher education.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individual, group, and email academic advising to DCSTEM graduate students; Interpret policies, procedures, rules, and regulations governed by the state, federal, and the university to students, faculty, and others;

  • Provide email responses to new student and existing student inquiries; Provide customer service to existing students, including;

  • Helping students set up their schedules,

  • Processing Degree Works adjustments,

  • Helping students understand course requirements/options, and

  • helping students understand resources that have been prepared for navigating the project/thesis or dissertation paths;

  • Coordinate Graduate Student Orientation;

  • Document and maintain the graduate student plans of studies;

  • Develop and conduct group/individual workshops/training modules related to functional areas of responsibility;

  • Compile information for various statistical assessments and status reports; Participate in campus and off-campus functions that support the university, division, and departmental mission;

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
