Job Description

Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Long-Term Disability Case Manager!

About the role

In this position, you will make timely, accurate, and customer-focused Long-Term Disability claim decisions. You will work closely with internal and external sources to gather data, compare it to the contract and procedural documents, conduct an analysis, and engage peers and management as appropriate. You will communicate verbally and in writing and fully use the claim system with high attention to detail and accuracy.

LTD claim decisions handled by this position can be quite complex and because these claims can have an elongated duration and the dollar amounts exponentially impact what is due, the risk exposure to the corporation can be substantial. Successful candidates should be able to develop solutions through analysis and research or create a new point of view using existing solutions. The level of independent judgement assigned to this position increases over time.

What you will do

  • Render timely, accurate, and customer-focused LTD new and ongoing claim decisions.
  • Reach out internal and external sources to collect relevant clinical, vocational, employer, and financial information.
  • Compare captured information to the terms, limitations, and conditions of the contract and applicable procedural documents. Render the claim decision as quickly as possible.
  • Document the claim systems in an accurate and comprehensive manner while maintaining efficiency.
  • Prepare and disseminate articulate written and verbal communication to appropriate internal and external contacts.
  • Prepare, update, and use a claim management plan to attain the most appropriate outcome.
  • Remain in full compliance with regulatory requirements and operational standards. Meet or exceed claim team operational metrics.
  • Maintain an outstanding level of empathetic customer service in all interactions. Take appropriate actions to earn the claimant's and employer's trust and confidence. Anticipate customer needs and act.
  • Work as a team to support one another, cultivate high morale, and demonstrate a dedication to excellence.
