Job Description
The Director IT, Electronic Health Record (EHR) Applications is responsible for overseeing the advancement and maintenance of VCUHS Electronic Health Record (Epic).

The Director IT, EHR Applications provides leadership, coordination and management of EHR (Epic) resources to maintain enterprise applications.

The position is responsible for either:

Epic Inpatient and Core Clinicals including: Clin Doc and Orders, ASAP
Emergency Department, OpTime, Anesthesia, Radiant, Bugsy, Stork, Rover, Cupid, and 3rd party Cardiology Applications

Or:

EpicCare Ambulatory and Lab including: Beaker Lab and Blood Bank, Ambulatory, Nurse Triage, Bones, Healthy Planet, MyChart, Haiku/Canto, EpicCare Link, Wisdom, Kaleidoscope


Required: 7 years of progression in roles and responsibilities including 3 years of IT/Healthcare management experience.

Highly prefer at least 4 years leading an Epic Application Team in Academic Medicine.

Highly prefer 5 years Epic build experience; includes progressive experience in information technology support of Epic clinical applications to achieve advanced Epic build experience.

***This position is classified as "Hybrid" (Remote/Onsite) and therefore must reside within Richmond , VA or within commutable distance to Richmond, VA.

Essential Functions:

Lead, direct and be accountable for the overall performance of the EHR Applications teams in the development, maintenance delivery of EHR application systems.

Establish performance expectations and standards, serve as a role model and provide leadership direction to team members.

Develop and maintain comprehensive budgets and resource allocations.

Provide input to the technology strategy and vision for the organization, work closely with the IT senior leadership in developing solution for current and proposed programs and representing the company at key technology events.

Drive continuous improvement to ensure core process are effectively designed, documented, implemented, and communicated to department and internal business partners.

Collaborate with cross functional teams and other leaders to provide tactics, ideas, and reasoning for behavior change, readiness, and team member/patient experience.

Provide strategic oversight of all operational process improvement techniques.

Resolve non routine and complex escalated operational matters and provide innovative solutions and follow up accordingly.

Monitor performance utilizing various dashboards, scorecards, statistical and reporting methodologies to ensure success in project management and testing.

Coach and develop direct reports to enhance and improve professional effectiveness through capability development including consultation, solutioning, agility, courage, critical thinking, collaboration, change management, and strategic problem solving

Ensure responsibility and visible commitment of diversity equity and inclusion strategy, programs, and initiatives through collaboration and implementation of initiatives across the health system.

Performs other duties as assigned and/or participates in special projects in order to support the mission of VCUHS and the Department Assists team members. Accepts alternate assignments, as required to fulfill business needs.

Employment Qualifications:

Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or other healthcare-related field or equivalent years of experience

Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in Information Technology or other healthcare-related field

Licensure,/Certification Preferred:
Epic Certification in a minimum of one application

Years and Type of Experience Required:
7 years of progression in roles and responsibilities including 3 years of IT/Healthcare management experience

Years and Type of Preferred:
Healthcare experience
