Acara Solutions has been around for 65 years supporting the nation's aerospace firms with our staffing related services. Our San Jose, CA electric aircraft manufacturer client is looking for a principle level Mechanical Systems Engineer to join their fast growing organization as a direct employee. The salary range tops out at around $208K. This is an onsite position.

The ideal candidate will have experience with helicopters, drones or aircraft like the V-22 Osprey or other tilt rotor craft.

- Lead and support the development of one or multiple of the critical, actuated mechanisms on the aircraft
- Provide technical communication and coordination with senior leadership and program management
- Team responsibilities include the propeller tilt mechanism, the variable pitch mechanism, the flight controls surface mechanisms (flaperons and ruddervators), and the landing gear systems
- Manage the technical direction of the designs, as well as the management of their delivery, conformity, test, and certification
- Mentoring the Jr. level Mechanical Systems engineers on the team
Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
BSME or Aerospace Engineering or similar engineering discipline
Min 10 years of experience relating to aircraft structural design engineering (an advanced degree will substitute some of this required experience). This experience / knowledge should include the majority of the following:
  1. GD&T for mechanical systems.
  2. Design for 14 CFR Part 23 compliance to systems requirements.
  3. Aircraft structural analysis utilizing hand calculations and finite element methods (a must have).
  4. Materials selection inclusive of alloys, heat treatments, allowables, and surface treatments.
  5. Siemens NX CAD and Simcenter FEA tools ideally, or CREO, CATIA, Solidworks and other FEA tools acceptable.
  6. Roller element bearing selection and sizing.
  7. Involute gear tooth design and analysis.
  8. Ball and/or Lead screw design and analysis.
  9. Analyses: Modal, nonlinear and linear buckling, fatigue.
  10. Helicopter or rotary blade aircraft design experience.

Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
MSME
  • Familiarity with PDM systems
  • Project/Program management experience
  • Proficiency in Matlab, Python, Mathcad, and/or Labview.
  • Hands-on machine shop or mechanic experience (professional or hobby)
  • RTCA DO-160 testing experience
  • Demonstrated interest in aviation
  • Pilot's license
