SOS Temporary Staffing (SOSTS)

SOSTS is part of the University of Missouri-Columbia Human Resources department providing temporary staffing services for the entire University of Missouri System. We are always recruiting for our talent pool of qualified, skilled candidates. We employ people of all legal working ages, including University of Missouri students and retirees. Working our temporary assignments gives you a chance to:

  • Gain references and networking possibilities
  • Explore potential full-time opportunities
  • Polish your skills and talents
  • Demonstrate why you are the right one for the job

Many of our temporary staff are hired into full-time regular jobs at the University. If your goal is full-time employment, becoming an SOSTS employee is an excellent way to get your foot in the door!

University policy limits the maximum number of hours some employees may work across all concurrent University jobs. For details see HR-101 Employee Status and Are there work-hour limits for retirees?

  • University retirees may work up to 29.6 hours per week (0.74 FTE).
  • University students may work up to 28 hours per week (0.70 FTE).
  • University international students may work up to 20 hours per week (0.50 FTE).

If you are excited to work temporary assignments with us, but feel you are not perfectly qualified for this job description, please apply anyway!

Other Information

For more information about SOS Temporary Staffing, visit our website or call (573) 882-7701.

Benefit Eligibility

SOSTS temporary staff are variable-hour employees and not eligible for University benefits.

However, eligibility for medical insurance is different because of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Under the PPACA, some variable-hour employees become eligible for UM System medical insurance while staying ineligible for the University's other insurance plans. To see how the UM System is meeting the requirements of this law, refer to Medical Insurance Eligibility.

Also, there are UM System voluntary retirement plans (VRPs) which are accessible to all faculty and staff regardless of eligibility for other benefits. Refer to Core and voluntary plans for details.

Values Commitment

We value the uniqueness of every individual and strive to ensure each person's success. Contributions from individuals with diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives promote intellectual pluralism and enable us to achieve the excellence that we seek in learning, research and engagement. This commitment makes our university a better place to work, learn and innovate.

In your application materials, please write about your experiences and abilities that support these values and enrich our missions of teaching, research, and engagement.
