Summary of Job Duties:The Associate Director of the ROAR Advising Center plays an important role in the training and development of UAFS advisors and providing support for institutional initiatives which lead to student success. The position provides leadership to institutional training and technology initiatives and is responsible for assisting with academic advising, student registration, graduation application processing, special events, and recruitment and retention functions. The position reports to the Director of the ROAR First-Year Advising Center.Qualifications:

Education & Work Experience: Minimum qualifications include a master's degree. Candidates with 5 years of professional work experience in higher education, academic advising, career planning, admissions or financial aid preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: To perform the job successfully, the following competencies are required for the essential functions of this position:

  • Knowledge of student technology platforms and data analytics
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with units across campus
  • Knowledge of higher education, student development, retention, and student learning
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail
  • Ability to disseminate educational and career information to groups and individuals
  • Must be able to work in a quality-focused service environment with excellent organizational skills, customer service and in a professional manner

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a key institutional advocate for student success. Assist ROAR students with major and course selection and provide career development and academic advising assistance. Support holistic retention initiatives and resource referrals with campus partners.
  • In coordination with the Director, serve as a resource and trainer for advisors on the use of Workday, Navigate, and Blackboard. This position will serve as an institutional resource for the design, testing, implementation, and assessment of these technology platforms for student success campus wide. Assist with the training of student workers in coordination with the Assistant Director of Operations. Maintain the ROAR First-Year Advising Center website.
  • Support broader student success and retention initiatives at UAFS through committee participation, research and analytics, and continued process improvement. This person will serve on the Academic Advising Council Executive Board, Enrollment Management Leadership Team, a committee with New Student and Family Programs, and other committees as opportunities arise.
  • Initiate reports and audit reporting and messaging for ROAR advisors to ensure consistent communication and that required documents are received and uploaded.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of retention strategies, and interventions for first-year students in collaboration with the Director and Assistant Director for Operations of the ROAR First-Year Advising Center and others within the Student Success and Retention division.
  • In collaboration with the Directors of the ROAR First Year Advising Center and Academic Programs Support, participate in the regular review of course capacity and student demand. Assist with research projects in Student Success & Retention looking at yield and yearly course demand.
  • Provide leadership to professional advisors in the absence of the Director of ROAR Advising Center.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the overall success of the department by performing all other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork.
  • Requires consistent on-time attendance and occasional availability to work evenings and weekend to support university events.
  • Attendance at graduation ceremonies may be required.

Working Relationships: Works with the Division of Student Success and Retention and must possess the ability to communicate effectively with students, administrators, faculty, and staff members as well as members of the community. Must be able to work in a team orientated environment.

Special Job Dimensions: Work performed primarily in an office setting. Occasional extended walking required (on-campus). Walks, sits, bends, occasional lifting. Occasional overtime required during peak periods. Occasional travel may be required. The office is open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Extended hours occasionally required.
